Although a good mattress is a central part of a good bed…it isn’t the only important part. Sleep Hacks to Help Improve Quality Of Sleep:
- Exercise during the day: Spending time exercising has a myriad of benefits including helping you fall asleep more quickly and drastically improve quality of sleep overall.
- Avoid large meals, alcohol, and caffeine before bed: Eating/drinking close to bedtime isn’t the best for multiple reasons. It should primarily be avoided because it can keep you up longer take your digestive system longer to digest food while you’re lying down.
- Create a bedtime routine: Having a bedtime schedule can help you unwind and relax before climbing into bed for the night.
- Turn off prior to bedtime: This one is easier said than done but avoiding blue-light emitting devices before bed can indeed help you fall asleep. Scrolling on your phone is stimulating for your brain so it’s best to power off your devices a little while before trying to sleep.
- Read a book: After a long day, reading can help me fall asleep SO fast. If I ever wake up during the night too, reaching for my book instead of my phone helps me fall back asleep more promptly.
- Create a dark, cozy, and distraction-free sleep environment: Creating the proper sleeping environment is essential for falling and staying asleep!

How To Make Your Bed Comfy As A Cloud
Mattress
The first building block to creating a cozy bed is making sure you have a good mattress. Chances are you can probably work with what you have, but if your mattress is sagging, concaving, or is straight-up uncomfortable, maybe it’s time to get a new one.
If you’re in the market for a new mattress, consider your choice based on your typical sleeping position. You’ll want a mattress that feels soft yet supportive and contours to your body shape.
Since ordering a mattress can be risky, it’s best to go to a furniture or mattress store and be able to lie down on a variety of mattresses to figure out your preference before buying.
Mattress Topper
The next step to creating the bed of your dreams is investing in a mattress topper. A mattress topper is a large piece of extra padding that lays over top of your mattress and provides extra cushioning and comfort. Using a mattress topper can help improve the comfort of your bed without having to purchase a whole new bed.
Mattress toppers come in foam, latex, graphite-infused foam, etc. When picking out the perfect memory foam mattress pad, the key aspect to look out for is the density of the mattress pad. Measurements of 3 to 5 pounds per cubic foot are typically classified as medium-density which is great for many people.
I also found this lavender-infused memory foam mattress topper if you like to be lulled to sleep by the soothing scent of lavender!
Pillows
Pillows are a subjective thing, but they are an essential part of achieving ultimate comfort in your bed. There’s certainly nothing worse than finally laying down in bed at the end of a long day and trying to get comfortable on a clumpy or flat pillow. Your pillow of choice will depend on a few factors including your sleeping temperature, your pillow firmness preferences, etc.
As someone who has tested out many pillows, Casper Standard pillows take the cake for me. If you’re looking for a pillow with a medium thickness, (that isn’t too fluffy) and doesn’t get clumped up and provides nice support to your neck while you sleep. Give these pillows a try!
Sheets
Having the right sheets can make a world of a difference in your sleep quality too. One thing to consider before upgrading your sheets is your sleep temperature. If you sleep hot, then you may want to avoid flannel sheets and opt for a material such as linen or percale sheets.
These MALOUF 100% Rayon from Bamboo Sheets are to die for, and my all-time favorite set of sheets. They’re smooth, breathable, and oh-so-soft.
Sheet tips:
- Stick to 100% natural materials when buying sheets to ensure you’re buying a product that is smooth and breathable.
- If you don’t have two sets of sheets, get two. It’s best to change wash and switch out your sheets at least once a week so having two sets will help you stay on top of keeping your bed fresh!
- Thread count doesn’t matter as much as everyone says it does! I used to buy into the hype but I don’t anymore.
- Silk pillowcases are the best for your skin and hair, so if you’re not happy with the pillowcases that came with your sheet set, try silk!
Duvet Cover
If a top sheet isn’t your style, you can opt to get a duvet cover instead. Opting for a duvet cover can add a fluffy and inviting appearance to your bed and can add to the aesthetic style of your room. This Luxurious Egyptian Cotton Duvet Cover is sure to leave your bed looking and feeling like a cloud.
Bed Frame
Another thing to consider if you’re going all out on a new bed setup is having a proper bed frame. Bed frames help distribute your body weight evenly and can help prolong your mattress’s life.
Head Board
Headboards can level up your cozy bed game for multiple reasons. A headboard can add a stylistic touch to your bedroom as well as allow you to comfortably sit up in bed. Perfect for winding down with your book or watching your favorite TV show to end the night.

Steps for making your bed:
- Pull the fitted sheets over the four corners of your mattress.
- Lay the flat sheet overtop of the fitted sheet so there’s about 3 inches of space between the top of the sheet and the top of your bed.
- If you’re adding a blanket, lay it on top of the fitted sheet.
- Create hospital corners: Check out this guide for how to make hospital corners.
- Lay duvet cover over bed
- Slide pillows into pillowcases
Other accessories to create a cozy sleep environment:
Finding the right components for your bed is an essential part of peaceful sleep, but so are the sleep accessories! Here are 4 of my favorites to help lull you to sleep.
Body Pillow
There’s nothing like wrapping your arms and legs around a comfy full-length body pillow. Especially if you’re a side sleeper, using a body pillow can help relieve pressure on the lower back, hips and spine.
Humidifier/Essential oil diffuser
During the wintertime, a humidifier can make a big difference in your quality of sleep. Your room may tend to get dry with the heater on, so the humidifier can combat this issue. This humidifier is also an essential oil diffuser, adding essential oils to a diffuser can add a dreamy & relaxing scent to your room to aid sleep!
Fan
You can never go wrong with a fan to help you sleep. A fan provides a soothing breeze to help you to stay cool and provides the perfect white noise to lull you right to sleep.
Hatch Alarm Clock
If you’re a little more particular about white noise sounds for falling asleep, and don’t like to be awoken by the jarring BEEP BEEP BEEP of your standard alarm clock or phone…You should consider the hatch alarm clock. This alarm helps improve sleep quality at both the beginning and end of your day so you can be more productive in your waking life.
